Aiken’s Makin’ marketing reaches three states
The marketing of Aiken’s Makin’ continues to grow, and this year promotion and advertising of the popular event crosses numerous counties in three states. The marketing effort could create a draw for visitors to Aiken for more than just the annual arts and crafts festival.
“We were able to purchase more local and regional media packages than we have in the past. This is due in part to funding we received through the City’s Accommodations Tax and also from a collaborative effort with the Aiken Downtown Development Association (ADDA),” said J. David Jameson, president and CEO of the Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce.
The collaborative effort with ADDA promotes Aiken’s Makin’ and supports ADDA’s campaign of promoting Aiken as a destination for a day, a night, or a weekend. Radio spots for Aiken’s Makin’ also mention that Aiken was recently named one of a dozen distinctive destinations in America by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
The Chamber’s largest marketing effort outside the market for this year’s Aiken’s Makin’ is concentrated in the Upstate. The media packages with radio and TV stations located in Greenville and Spartanburg promise a reach of 274,740 radio listeners and 427,000 TV viewers. In addition to 19 counties in the Upstate, 11 Georgia counties, 20 North Carolina counties, and nine Tennessee counties are hearing the promotional ads for Aiken’s Makin’.
Current promotion on an Orangeburg radio station reaches all and some parts of nine South Carolina counties, and eight billboards in communities west of Augusta are promoting Aiken’s Makin’.
In the local market, promotion of Aiken’s Makin’ through radio reaches more than 249,000 listeners in 14 South Carolina counties, the Augusta Metro area, and towns west of the Augusta area. Advertising in print media reaches six South Carolina counties with a daily readership of 18,360 and a Sunday readership of 17,176. And TV is reaching 250,000 viewers in 37 counties in South Carolina and Georgia.
Readers can check their local stations to hear or see Aiken’s Makin’ ads, and if they are traveling in other regions, they just may hear something about the festival, and about Aiken, too.
